SUMMER RESIDENCIES

This program is a co-production effort for more established artists who are ready for a 1 to 4 week run. Projects are chosen based on their fit with the Ontological's mission, a process-focused timeline and potential for successful execution. We seek artists who follow in Richard Foreman's footsteps to some extent--but it is crucial they have their own process and vision in composing work. We see these residencies as a stepping stone for emerging artists who are trying to manage their growth but also achieve higher levels of production, increase their exposure to audience, press and producers, as well as produce their work in an environment that is supportive of the challenges that they are setting for themselves.

The Incubator staff provide a safety net for artists who are trying to make the next leap to self-production and touring.  We provide the space, some equipment, house management, and assistance with press and distribution of marketing materials, as well as advice and feedback about the artwork.

Residents are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of production management and financially. Because the Incubator has limited resources, the incoming company must have their own Technical/Production and Stage Managers who supervise the load-ins and the running of the shows. Furthermore, in order to cover our own expenses, the Incubator has to be guaranteed a certain box office revenue by the artists in residence.

The Ontological Theater will book Incubator artists and events for most of the 08--09 season, including the fall and winter. To apply for a residency, please download the application form below.

Submission Deadline for the period covering late September 08--April 09:
April 1, 2008

Summer 09 residencies require a separate application that will be due in summer 08--please watch the site for updates.
