SHORT FORM is an interdisciplinary forum that gives artists from a variety of backgrounds including theater, performance art, dance and installation, the opportunity to test the boundaries of compositional performance and refine their own unique form and style by creating a small repertoire of four 10-minute performances that are thematically connected, but independent pieces of art. In November each year artists/groups are chosen to work in parallel for four months. Each month the artists present a new short work to the general public. The artists also meet once a month in private to discuss with each other and the program curators, Brendan Regimbal and Peter Ksander, their aesthetic and technical plans as well as the challenges they are facing in the upcoming production. The program culminates in a weeklong festival-style presentation in the Ontological Theater.

Mark the first page of a book with a red marker, for in the beginning, the wound is invisible. In a defined, inversely related space, characters with secrets move through individual utopias thrilled, until the shell surrounding their perspectives slowly peels away, revealing dark human truths.

THE INSOMNAMBULIST
The Watson College Presents...
The Insomnambulist is an exploration of violence and change in the space of static moments. The absurd is used as a pillow around the drama in order to allow for a greater fight toward the tragic.

WHAT IS WILD

Responding to early conservationist John Muir's Wilderness Discovery books, What Is Wild stages theatrical experiments on what is essential, compelling and impossible about American Wilderness.

The line up:

In THE MYSTERIES OF PARIS, Writer/director Normandy Raven Sherwood creates an episodic adaptation/response to Eugene Sue's 1843 serialized novel of the same title. Movement, pantomime and object theater collide.

In the multimedia work entitled IPH.THEN, writer/director Peter Campbell uses several versions of the Iphigenia tale as well as several contemporary sources, in monologues, dialogues, opera, choral interludes, dances, fragments, video, and interruptions.

BETWEEN THE SHADOWS, the latest by performance artist/director  Rania Khalil , is a multi-media collection of vignettes which combine physical theater, shadow puppetry and new media.  Aesthetically inspired by German Expressionism and Film Noir, it is an often playful, wordless exploration of war and apathy. 

The four pieces of FEVER DREAMS AND BLUE MORNING WHISTLES feature young actors as archetypal characters in four distinct, metaphoric worlds.   Creators Stephen Cedars and Christina Latimer explore ideas of loneliness, dependence, and the odd possibilities that exist behind the veil of the ordinary world.

FORM EQUALS NOTHINGNESS follows a throng of characters inhabiting a noh-influenced world, where the central player, Henry, is stripped of the delusion of identity. He progresses toward a turbid state of consciousness that penetrates him deeper at every turn.   Stephen Mosblech writes and directs.
